Summer Institute of Linguistics

FELM provides The Summer Institute of Linguistics with staff for fieldwork throughout the world through Wycliffe Bible Translators.

SIL staff is engaged in:

• The mapping and analysis of languages
• Translation and literacy
• Training of local translators
• Expertise and advisory services

Bible Translation and Literacy Programmes

FELM staff is engaged in translating the Bible and providing literacy programmes among the Ake people of Northern Thailand and among the linguistic minorities of Cambodia. Along the Mekong River FELM provides expertise for the literacy programmes of SIL and its partners. This includes skills development for translating.

In Papua New Guinea, FELM staff carries out Bible translation and literacy programmes in indigenous languages such as Kovai, Urat, Mussau-emira, Urim and Nek. In the province of New Ireland work is done among five Austronesian languages that belong to the lavongai-nalik language family.
