Work in Finland

The offices of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission are located in Helsinki. Mission church, Mission academy and library, the renewed Mission museum and the publishing company are also located at the headquarters. In addition, we have our own team in each of the dioceses of the church.

The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission has close connections to the local parishes the Finnish Church, and it has made over a thousand special agreements with them. Through these agreements the parishes take part in the missionary work both economically and spiritually.

Mission Gathering

The annual festivities of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission gather together over 10,000 friends of the mission from the Finnish parishes each year. There is a separate gathering for the Swedish speaking population.

Parish visits and the mission exhibition

The employees of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission and the missionaries visit parishes and schools. Through the exhibitions we reach thousands of people around the country each year.

Missionary education

The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission arranges various educational events together with the dioceses and parishes.

Youth work

The youth work of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission supports the youth work of the Church both nationally as in a diocesan level. Among others, the activities include education, material production, events, and projects.

Camp and course centres

The camp and course centre Päiväkumpu offers activities for people of all ages all year round.

Mission museum and Mission church

The renewed Mission museum and the over 100-year-old Mission church are open for visitors by appointment. The museum is open on Tuesdays and from Thursday to Sunday, noon - 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from noon – 6 p.m., for groups by appointment.

On Sundays at 2 pm, a mass is held in the Mission church in collaboration with the Helsinki tuomiokirkkoseurakunta parish (however, not in summer or during Christmas or Easter). We also regularly arrange bible study meetings that are open to all. Visiting groups can also dine at the Mission restaurant Teranga. Check the events calendar of the church for more information.

Musical activities

The musical activities of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission distribute the music from the young churches of Africa and Asia to the Finnish parishes. Many choirs and bands take part in the activities, and they can be booked to perform in the missionary events of the parishes. We have also published a collection of spiritual songs called Laula kaikki maa and other songbooks for the parishes. For the past 30 years, the Christmas carol events arranged in churches have been one of the most popular Christmas events of the parishes.

Publishing company

The publishing company of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission is as old as the Mission itself. It specialises in books, music tapes, and other products that focus on missionary work and the meeting of different cultures.
